Do you charge for a survey or an estimate?+No. We come out, inspect the property, work out what is actually causing the problem and then send you a written estimate setting out the specification and the price. There is no fee and no obligation to go ahead. How do I know whether I have rising damp or penetrating damp?+You often cannot tell from the staining alone, which is why so much damp work gets done twice. Rising damp typically shows as a tide mark low down on internal walls with salting in the plaster, while penetrating damp usually tracks a defect above it: a cracked render panel, a failed flashing, a blocked gutter. We diagnose the cause before we quote a cure. Can a wet cellar really be turned into a usable room?+Yes. Below-ground rooms are made dry either with cementitious tanking bonded to the structure or with a cavity drain membrane system that manages water to a drainage point. Which one suits your cellar depends on the construction and the water pressure, and we will explain the choice in plain terms at the survey. Do you handle both the roofing and the rendering on the same job?+We do, and it is one of the main reasons customers call us. Damp is very often a roofing or rendering fault rather than a wall fault, so having one company responsible for the roof, the render and the internal repair removes the finger-pointing and gets the property dry in one visit sequence.
